First time edit, pls help?

[edit]

I added a link to a NYTimes story that just came out where Ben Barnes admitted that he and Former Governor John Connolly Jr conspired to stop hostages from being released until after Reagan took office. I just don’t know how to make the reference number correctly appear, also not sure if the sentence should go at the end of the section. I didn’t want to change any other parts of the article, first time out. MC

Interim Government

[edit]

Should we include the Interim Government of Iran In the info box because it started during the Interim Government? Von bismarck (talk) 13:56, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No, because the Interim Government of Iran was against it. Parham wiki (talk) 21:44, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Challenging removal of article title from lead

[edit]

I'm challenging this edit on 9 November 2024 by User:Surtsicna as contrary to MOS:BOLDTITLE.

As that portion of MOS states: "If an article's title is a formal or widely accepted name for the subject, display it in bold as early as possible in the first sentence."

As Google Ngram Viewer shows, "Iran hostage crisis" has been a commonly used phrase since 1980. My personal recollection is that the crisis has been consistently referred to by that phrase in the national and international news media for over four decades. Google Books reveals that there are several books with the exact phrase "Iran hostage crisis" in their title. In other words, the phrase "Iran hostage crisis" is clearly the widely accepted name for the subject of this article. Any objections before I revert that edit? It seems to me that readers are much better served by cutting to the chase and saying what happened, but I will not object if you are so keen on boldface. Surtsicna (talk) 15:46, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I see no issue with the name of the incident in boldface.Rja13ww33 (talk) 01:45, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I support having a first sentence that includes the phrase "Iran hostage crisis" in bold type. Drdpw (talk) 17:50, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Very well, I have fixed this as proposed. To be clear, my interest in this topic is primarily because of the 80s classic song. At some point, we really need to have disambiguation links at the top of the articles on Iran and I Ran. --Coolcaesar (talk) 19:02, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
